Kyym Foster
Born and raised on the beautiful island of Jamaica, I struggle to appreciate a country and its people that often don't love me back. That is the aim of my creative work. It is bread and butter to most famous artists, but to be Trans, black, poor, out, and living in an anti-LGBTQIA+ Country, I use my art as a protest and tool to tell stories of how I’ve defeated all the odds against me, including work going unpaid and unnoticed.
In 2020, I co-founded a creative collective, United Trans Creatives, which aims to provide a platform for other Trans(LGBQA+) Artists to showcase their art and talent and to connect them with local, global and regional artists - EVERYWHERE. I aim to lead my community through fashion ARTivism where I stand tall, bold and proud as a Trans Woman living in Jamaica. Most of my work is presenting the existence of Trans Folks and Creatives to the forefront, and I am making strides in my journey.
