Joanne C. Hillhouse
Joanne C. Hillhouse is a writer from Ottos, Antigua-Barbuda. She was a Catapult grant recipient in 2020, producing an AMA about her work for AntiguanWriter on YouTube. In the year since, she has uploaded 38 videos (about 1/3 of her vlog’s content) – including interviews for her CREATIVE SPACE art and culture column, readings, and other content spotlighting books as an active member of booktube and authortube. Her work since then has included said column, client commissions – including workshops, writing, and editing assignments. Her published creative writing since has included children’s picture book The Jungle Outside, a short story in the 2021 Perito anthology, a poem in BIM and a short story in Moko. She has spoken at several virtual events including Medellin, the Langston Hughes festival, and others; has seen her book Musical Youth named a Kirkus top 100 indie, one of her stories make the BCLF short story long list for a second straight year, and placed third for the OECS Journalists Challenge on marine culture. Joanne has simultaneously continued as volunteer coordinator of the Wadadli Youth Pen Prize which she founded in 2004 and which achieved non-profit status in 2021.
