Javal Lewis

Javal Lewis

"Java lewis " - Jamaica

In only seven years of dance, Javal Lewis had achieved a level of finesse and performance excellence that is exemplary. This is not surprising as his passion, drive and commitment to a rigorous training schedule shows up in his meteoric rise and success as dancer with the NDTC. In 2018, after only 5 years of dance, he also received a full scholarship to the Vickers Dance Studio, studying ballet under the royal academy of dance curriculum. Surprisingly, he received distinctions throughout his course of study and in fact, received the highest marks in the Caribbean for both 2018 and 2019.

This is high praise for someone who started relatively late for a dancer, in 2013 at Bridgeport high school, entering JCDC festival. Upon leaving high school, Javal joined the Portmore Dance Theatre Company and fell even more with dance. That was the deciding factor that helped him choose dance as a career goal. Visibility there got him invited to the Stella Maris Dance Ensemble where he spent a short stint before auditioning for both the NDTC and the Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts. He has chosen dance as his life and likewise it has chosen him. This mutual love between him and dance was demonstrated in his debut in a trio called 'BRAVE' with the NDTC at its annual Easter'Morning of Movement and Music.' This piece was then premiered with the company on their 53rd season of dance. In addition to being featured as soloist on the Jamaica Dance Umbrella stage, Javal has performed the role of the Prince in Vickers Dance Studio's, Nutcracker and also a featured so in the NDTC's contemporary classic UNSCATHED. From humble beginnings, much has been delivered on Javal's dance promise and there is much more to come.
