Ailsa Anastatia
Ailsa Anastatia (1978, Curacao) is a Afro Caribbean multimedia artist born in Curacao, known for her installations, drawings and paintings, these are often a mix between conceptualism and spirituality. Her work is inspired by the theme SPACE, thus in the broadest sense of the word. Physical space, space between people, inner space, open or closed spaces, but also social/cultural/spiritual/environmental spaces. The way in which we interact with our surrounding space and how we move within the space. Her projects allow us to experience the theme in different perceptions. Anastatia often manipulates the assigned space during the exhibition so as to require the viewer to adapt to it. This, either by having to walk around it, through it or alongside it.
Her techniques and materials are a personal medium in the fulfillment of her concepts. The variety of materials and techniques used in her work depend on the story she wishes to convey. A certain “link” between the artist and the materials is, unequivocally, a determining factor. Ailsa Anastatia uses color symbolically and aims to incorporate the material in such a manner that its original color provides additional value.
